The new employment law (Law 4808/2021), among other very important regulations, ratifies Convention 190 of the International Labour Organization concerning “the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work”, which provides for the members’ obligation to put in place the appropriate legal framework to prevent and eliminate violence and harassment and safeguard equality in the world of work.

Within this context, Law 4808/2021 introduces the obligation of employers employing more than 20 persons to adopt certain policies and more precisely:

  • A policy for the prevention and combat of violence and harassment at work, which can be part of or accompanied by a policy for the promotion of equal opportunities and the combat of discrimination and
  • A policy for the administration of internal complaints for violence and harassment at work incidents.

The above policies will be drafted in accordance with certain procedures (Business Collective Agreement, Work Regulation etc.) Until then, the employer must put the above policies in force by a unilateral decision to be taken within 3 months from the entry of Law 4808/2021 into force (i.e. until 19.9.2021) following consultation with the employees or their representatives.

Our law firm, with its specialized in employment law lawyers, will be pleased to assist you in both the drafting of the above policies as well as on any other employment law issue of your concern. For this purpose, please contact Mrs. Liana Kosmatou and Mrs. Irini Zouli, lawyers of the Employment Law Division of our firm.
